A plan priced per user or per employee shows the price of one. Both VAT footings are shown where the vendor states its basis.

All prices are in rand. Where a vendor lists in dollars, pounds or euros we convert at R16.53 per US dollar, R21.86 per pound and R18.53 per euro (European Central Bank reference rates, via Frankfurter, 9 OCT 2026).

Amounts written out in the text of this review are at the reference rate of 2 October 2026. The charts and the calculator use the rates above, so a figure can differ by a rand or two.

What it is and who it is for

Sage Intacct is a cloud financial management and accounting system. Sage's South African page lists it among its products for medium businesses and describes it as AI powered, high performance finance software that delivers real time insights. It sits above Sage Accounting and Sage 50 Pastel in the range, and Sage publishes migration pages for businesses switching from Sage 50 Pastel and Sage 200 Evolution.

What you get

Sage highlights multi entity accounting that lets you manage all entities in a single system and consolidate hundreds of them in minutes, with automated eliminations and adjustments. It describes an intelligent ledger that brings financial and operational data together for budgeting and forecasting, with customisable, drillable dashboards.

  • Multi entity accounting and consolidation
  • Multi dimensional dashboards and reporting
  • AP Automation agent for bill entry, matching and duplicate detection
  • Financial Assurance agent that watches for outliers and reconciliation mismatches
  • Close agent for month end and year end close
  • Financial Intelligence agent that answers questions in natural language
  • Sage Copilot, now included, as an AI accounting assistant

What it costs

Sage's South African page says Sage Intacct pricing is tailored to your organisation's size and specific needs, with plans starting from about R22 000 a month, and that customers typically see returns of around five times their investment. Sage lists the figure in pounds on a South African page, so the rand amount is converted at the day's reference rate. It is before implementation, which is a separate project.

Because the price is tailored, treat about R22 000 a month as the floor. Ask Sage South Africa for a written quote that covers licences, implementation, training and the first two years of support.

South African fit

Sage South Africa launched Intacct locally in 2020 and sells and supports it on the same phone line as its other products. Sage's Africa pages describe South African VAT and statutory reporting support, and its South African page offers switching paths from Sage 50 Pastel and Sage 200 Evolution, which are South African products. The product page itself speaks in global terms, so ask Sage for a demonstration of your own VAT and banking set up.

A South African customer Sage quotes is Q4 Fuel, whose senior accountant says processing times fell by 10 to 20 percent a month and that inventory and margin analysis now covers the whole group.

Where it falls short

It is too much product for a small business, the price is tailored rather than listed, and the headline claims on the page are Sage's own. Implementation is a project in itself.

How it compares

Sage says Intacct is for finance teams that have outgrown Sage 50 or Sage Business Cloud. Within the range it sits above Sage 50cloud Pastel and next to Sage 200 Evolution and Sage X3, which are ERP products with stock and manufacturing in them.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • Multi entity accounting with consolidation and automated eliminations
  • Dimensional dashboards and reporting across financial and operational data
  • AI agents for bill entry, outlier checks and month end close, and Sage Copilot included
  • A stated starting point of about R22 000 a month, so the scale of cost is known
  • Launched locally in 2020, with switching paths from Sage 50 Pastel and Sage 200 Evolution

Limits

  • The price is tailored, so about R22 000 a month is a floor and a quote is needed
  • Too much product for a small business
  • Claims such as closing books up to 90 percent faster are Sage's own and untested here
  • A platform of this kind is usually implemented, not just switched on

Who it suits

Best for

  • Finance teams running several entities that need consolidation and eliminations
  • Businesses in industries Sage targets, such as professional services, software, wholesale and non profits
  • Companies that have outgrown Sage 50 Pastel or Sage 200 Evolution

Think twice if

  • You run a small business, because this is built for finance teams, not for one person
  • You need an exact price to compare, because Sage tailors it to the organisation
  • You expect a quick start, because a platform of this kind is usually implemented, not just switched on

In short

A serious option when consolidation and reporting matter more than a quick start. Treat the efficiency claims as marketing, ask Sage South Africa for a written quote, and ask for a demonstration of your own VAT and banking set up.
