What it is and who it is for

Trello organises work as cards on boards. The free plan allows up to ten boards per workspace and ten collaborators, with 10 megabytes of file storage and 250 workspace command runs a month. Standard adds unlimited boards, card mirroring, more automation with 1,000 command runs a month, 250 megabytes of file storage and AI capture. Premium adds five views, which are Calendar, Timeline, Table, Dashboard and Map, unlimited command runs, workspace level templates and admin controls. Enterprise adds unlimited workspaces, organisation wide permissions and single sign on with Atlassian Guard, plus round the clock support.

South African fit

The page mentions no South African support or billing details. Round the clock support is listed only for Enterprise.

Where it falls short

It is a lightweight tool by design, so complex projects with dependencies and resource plans will outgrow it. Views and unlimited automation sit on Premium.

How it compares

Against ClickUp, Trello is far simpler and cheaper per user at the entry level. See the full comparison.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • The simplest board tool in the category, with a gentle learning curve
  • The cheapest paid plan, from about R84 per user a month
  • A free plan for up to ten collaborators
  • Five views on Premium: Calendar, Timeline, Table, Dashboard and Map
  • A free Premium trial for all users

Limits

  • Light by design: complex projects with dependencies can outgrow it
  • Views beyond the board start on Premium
  • Free plan files are limited to 10 MB
  • Paid monthly, Standard is about R100 and Premium about R209

Who it suits

Best for

  • Small teams that want a simple, visual board for tasks
  • People who value speed and a gentle learning curve
  • Teams that already use Atlassian products

Think twice if

  • You need heavy reporting or resource planning, because Trello is deliberately light
  • You need views beyond the board, which start on Premium
  • You plan complex projects with dependencies, which can outgrow a board

In short

The easiest place to start and a low price to stay on. If your projects grow dependencies, timelines and reporting, look at Premium or at a heavier tool before you pile on.
