All prices are in rand. Where a vendor lists in dollars, pounds or euros we convert at R16.53 per US dollar, R21.86 per pound and R18.53 per euro (European Central Bank reference rates, via Frankfurter, 9 OCT 2026).

Amounts written out in the text of this review are at the reference rate of 2 October 2026. The charts and the calculator use the rates above, so a figure can differ by a rand or two.

What HubSpot CRM is

Overview, 3:24, published 4 March 2022. From the HubSpot channel on YouTube.

A video loads from YouTube only when you press play. The still picture before that comes from YouTube's image servers.

What it is and who it is for

HubSpot is a customer platform that started in marketing and grew into sales, service, content and data management. The CRM is the centre, and the free tools are a deliberate way in. The pricing page positions Starter as essential marketing, sales, service, content and data management software.

What you get

The comparison charts on the page differ by email sending limits, automation workflows, reporting dashboards, user seat limits, removal of HubSpot branding and meeting scheduling. In plain terms, the free tier proves the concept, Starter removes the branding and raises limits, and Professional adds the automation and reporting that most sales teams eventually want.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • A free CRM with no time limit, for up to two users
  • Marketing, sales and service tools in one platform
  • A large library of training and integrations
  • Four clear tiers, from Free to Enterprise

Limits

  • A big jump from Starter to Professional
  • Costs scale with seats and tiers, so the bill is hard to predict
  • Starter's price is discounted for new customers
  • No South African pricing or support line on the pages read

Who it suits

Best for

  • Small sales teams that want to start on a free CRM and learn as they go
  • Businesses that want marketing, sales and service tools in one platform
  • Teams that value a large library of training and integrations

Think twice if

  • You plan to move up to Professional, where the per user price is several times Starter
  • You need more than two users on the free plan
  • You want a flat, predictable bill, because costs scale with seats and tiers

In short

An easy, well supported way to start, and a platform where the bill can jump. Use the free tier to learn, and price the tier you will actually need before you commit your team to it.
